AUTOBELL CAR WASH RECEIVES TWO ENVIRONMENTAL AWARDS

CHARLOTTE (April 22, 2008) -- Autobell Car Wash, Inc., America’s third largest full-service car wash chain, headquartered here, garnered two environmental awards Wednesday.

During the luncheon presentation of the Charlotte Business Journal’s inaugural Green Awards, Autobell won in the For-Profit Business category for companies that have done the most to drive environmental sustainability internally or among their vendors and clients.

Later in the day, Autobell was recognized at the Mecklenburg County Soil & Water Conservation District’s awards banquet as the Conservation Business of the Year for its strict water conservation policies, procedures and practices. The Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District is a part of the Natural Resource Conservation Service, a division of the United States Department of Agriculture.  The organization works with residents, agencies and business owners to plan and direct programs for the conservation and development of natural resources.

Autobell treats 100% of its waste water and recycles up to 100%.  One Autobell unit includes a bioretention pond and rain garden, while one of the newer stores features an Aqua Bio 100% reclaim water treatment system in which enzymes digests and recycle wastewater, relatively new technology in the car wash industry.  Autobell employees routinely conduct preventive maintenance on equipment to avoid spills and leaks and carry out other daily water conservation practices; the company also uses only organic cleaning products.  Autobell is involved in numerous other conservation concerns including waterway clean-up programs, as well as a very popular and successful charity car wash program that discourages home and parking lot car washes that allow polluted waste water to enter storm drains and waterways.

Since 2000, Autobell has received seven other environmental awards from various utility, municipality and media organizations.  Autobell owns and operates 49 car washes in 25 North Carolina, 1 South Carolina, and 4 Virginia communities.

“We are humbled and honored to be recognized for our environmental commitment and efforts,” said Chuck Howard, President & CEO of Autobell Car Wash, Inc. “Water conservation and other environmental concerns in which we are involved are vitally important not only to Autobell, but to our communities and our planet.”

AUTOBELL CAR WASH & WATER CONSERVATION

With drought conditions and a vital need for water conservation efforts upon us,  I would like to inform you of what Autobell Car Wash is doing, and has always done, to proactively participate in water conservation.
You may already be aware that at Autobell, we treat and filter 100% of our waste water and recycle 80%.  We use and properly maintain state-of-the art equipment and technology for our water reclaim and conservation.
Additionally, a professional car wash at Autobell uses a fraction of the water expended in a typical home car wash.  In fact, we discourage home and parking lot car washes wherein waste water is often disposed of improperly and illegally into city storm drains, polluting our streams and rivers.
Our charity car wash program has significantly reduced the number of parking lot fundraiser car washes by giving non-profit organizations an option by which they can raise needed funds while conserving water and helping protect our environment.
In restricted water-use situations, Autobell complies by adjusting water volume and the ratio of recycled to fresh water used in the wash process.
Since 2000, Autobell has garnered seven awards for our water conservation and environmental practices, and during the 2002 summer drought, we were summoned to several communities to educate others on our water management policies and procedures.
We are in the water management business and believe that everyone should do their part, especially in times like these.

Sincerely,
Chuck Howard
