CHARLOTTE, NC (January 13, 2023) -- Autobell® Car Wash, headquartered here, was named among the Top Workplaces 2022 by North Carolina’s Charlotte Observer and Virginia’s Inside Business: The Hampton Roads Business Journal. The Top Workplaces recognition is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey. The confidential survey measures 15 work-culture drivers that are critical to the success of an organization, including alignment, execution, and connection.

In addition to an overall Top Workplaces award, Autobell® also earned a special recognition from the program for Work/Life Flexibility. Special award recipients are chosen based on exceptionally high employee responses to specific survey statements. Anonymous survey feedback on this topic from Autobell® team members included, “The flexibility is top-tier; you won’t get another job like this,” and praising the “flexible work schedules to get my 40 hours but still be able to do school.”

Autobell® is the country's largest family-owned full-service car wash, employing over 3,000 team members across more than 85 locations in the South Atlantic region. Founded in 1969 by the late Charles Howard Sr., Autobell® is privately held and operated by subsequent generations of the Howard family.

“It’s an honor to see our team members recognize Autobell® as a great place to work,” stated Katie Sens, Autobell® Director of Human Resources. “Autobell® provides an amazing opportunity for those seeking a first job, including flexible schedules, generous scholarships, and leadership training. We also have a Manager Training certification program for those who wish to grow within the company. All our store managers started as team members and earned their leadership positions via hard work and dedication.

“Autobell® managers work with team members to create a schedule that fits the employee’s needs while balancing the needs of the store, shaping schedules around school, sports, and other extracurricular activities and providing team members the opportunity to earn money, learn, contribute to the community, and have fun at the same time,” continued Sens. “Over 55% of our team members come to us via friend referrals, which speaks volumes about what team members think of their work environment and advantages.”

The research-backed Top Workplaces employee engagement survey consists of 24 base statements that capture anonymous responses in four organizational imperatives:

Align: Where the company is headed, its values, cooperation, and effective meetings.

Connect: Employees feel appreciated, work is meaningful, they are working at full potential, and communicate well with each other.

Coach: Managers care about concerns, are helpful, and encourage employee development.

Performance: Execution, open-mindedness, innovation, and informed and engaged leadership.

The employee engagement survey also measures:

Employee Engagement: Productivity, retention, and recruiting.

Leadership: Confidence in company leaders.

The Basics: Pay, benefits, flexibility, training, and expectations.

“Earning a Top Workplaces award is a badge of honor for companies, especially as it comes authentically from their employees,” said Eric Rubino, CEO of engagement technology partner Energage, LLC, which administers the surveys. “In today's market, leaders must ensure they’re allowing employees to have a voice and be heard. That's paramount. Top Workplaces do this, and it pays dividends.”
